People have built treehouses to escape the danger of the ground for many years – perhaps to safely avoid scavenging animals, neighbouring tribes or floods. Today, treehouses are still a form of escape – somewhere to step away from everyday life and dream a little.
In today’s modern world, we’d all like to climb a tree and escape every now and again and hotels around the world have acknowledged this, adding some luxury to make the whole experience extra special.
The Telegraph recently listed what it considered to be the world’s best treehouse hotels, picking out examples in locations from Mexico to South Africa and Peru to New Zealand.
Nearer to home are the luxury treehouse suites in Chewton Glen, in the New Forest, and we were absolutely delighted to have been involved with various projects at Chewton Glen as Quantity Surveyors and Project Managers, including the treehouses.
Read what The Telegraph thinks about the Chewton Glen treehouses here:
The treehouses at Chewton Glen have been created in two stages. Firstly in 2012, we built six individual treehouses encompassing 12 rooms and, in 2017, we supported the hotel in adding a seventh larger suite, ‘The Yews’.
We worked on the projects from the initial planning process and estimate stages, through to site construction, interior design and fit out, liaising with interior designers and managing the procurement of furnishings.
‘The Yews’ can accommodate up to 12 people (four adults and eight children) and boasts inside and outside space. Suspended 35 feet above the ground, like all the treehouses at Chewton Glen, it features outdoor hot tubs on the terrace deck, a large outside terrace with seating and day beds, marble bathrooms with a large free-standing bath with forest views and mood lighting throughout.
‘The Yews’ also features a full-service kitchen to allow chefs to prepare delicious menus for private dining events or parties adding to the luxurious feel.
